OUR PROGRAMS
Prevention of drug use and reduction of vulnerability and risks
Our prevention programmes work to boost protective factors and eliminate or reduce risk factors for drug use. The programmes are designed for various ages and can be used in individual or group settings, such as the school and home.
There are three types of programmes:
- Universal programmes address risk and protective factors common to all children in a given setting, such as a school or community.
- Selective programmes are for groups of children and teens who have specific factors that put them at increased risk of drug use.
- Indicated programmes are designed for youth who have already started using drugs.
Referring of people with drug use disorders to rehabilitation centres
Mkono kwa Mkono refers drug addicts to rehabilitation centres for treatment, counselling and other social supports such as linkage to community recovery groups depending on an individual patient's needs and level of existing family and social support.
Our Family therapies engage partners and/or parents and children to help the individual achieve positive outcomes based on behaviour change.
Social reinsertion into the society
Mkono kwa Mkono considers social reinsertion as an integral part of the recovery program. Actually, reinsertion is entwined with recovery and it is pursued as a goal since day one. The residents are immediately experiencing a daily routine where socializing, job training and a structured timetable are helping them not just in facing the addiction, but establishing work ethic and fostering conscious and respectful behaviour.
In practical terms, having a job training while staying in the community, helps them in creating self-confidence, in feeling useful members of the community and in experiencing constantly a sense of accomplishment.
